Australian eco-friendly nappy brand tooshies commits to reducing their plastic impact

2 billion nappies go to landfill in Australia every single year. Due to the plastic content, each nappy can take up to 500 years to break down. The reality of parenthood means that approximately 90% of Australian parents are attracted to the convenience afforded by using disposable nappies.

Given this, the team at tooshies is committed to reducing the amount of plastic contained in each nappy, swapping plastic components for plant-based materials where possible. tooshies’ goal is to see the entire life cycle of disposable nappies become more sustainable, having set the ambitious target of creating a 100% plastic free disposable nappy by 2030.

In recognition that they are not yet at this point, tooshies have decided to take immediate action against their plastic impact by committing to offset 7.5 tonnes of plastic in 2022. This means less plastic ending up in landfill or flowing into our precious environment.

“In our efforts to reduce our plastic impact on the environment, we loved what Waste Revolution were able to offer in terms of plastic reduction including a social impact as well. They have been flexible to our needs and requirements so we can ensure we are making improvements in reducing our plastic impact.”

recycled plastic posts donated to Australian farmers

To reduce their plastic impact, tooshies are funding the production of over 1,300 recycled plastic posts. These posts are donated to Australian charity BlazeAid who help farmers rebuild their properties after bushfires or floods, by planting trees and rebuilding fences. Not only are tooshies diverting 7.5 tonnes of plastic from landfill, but they are playing their part in helping rebuild and regenerate Australian communities.
